Comparison Kills Joy: How to Stop Comparing and Start Appreciating You

What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”
― Scott Westerfeld

Yes, comparison kills joy.

I’m not sure if men do this but I know for a fact that when it comes to physical beauty – women are always comparing themselves to other women, and they never measure up.

Comparing yourself to others is a toxic and dis-empowering mind-set. It will crush your spirit and destroy your self-esteem.
Can you relate to these and/or other negative thoughts?

She is so beautiful! She has nice legs! Her breasts are bigger than mine! She's thinner! Etc.

Are you always making comparisons with other women thinking they are more physically attractive than you? Beauty is skin deep. You can never buy it during a shopping spree or find it within the glossy pages of your favorite fashion magazine.

Stop comparing yourself to other women. We are all made differently. What joy would there be, if everybody looked exactly the same?  How would we tell each other apart? And won’t men find us desperately boring?

Stop looking at the lip-gloss she wears or the Prada bag that she carries; they may be nice to look
at. But they do little for self-worth. That comes from the belly within.

Self-appreciation comes from loving yourself. It comes from being true to yourself and appreciating yourself just the way you are. It comes from having lips that only speak well about people and eyes that only see the best in people.

Comparison kills joy and it's a sign of low-confidence and poor self-esteem. Be confident and realize that there are many things to like about you. Be contented with these things. Someone somewhere might just be dying to have these qualities!

Comparing yourself to others is a time waster; it will only lower your confidence levels. There is no one out there like you, who has your experiences or abilities. So love yourself and be optimistic about
your possibilities. Never look down on yourself. Celebrate yourself. Show your body respect by taking care of it.

You can also go on a night out with yourgirlfriends and feel good about life. And if the conversation starts to veer towards not being good enough, tell your friends that there are more interesting things in life to be talking about. And when you do not feel like hitting the town with your girlfriends and want to stay at home, no problem!

Do not drag your feet around the house looking like what the cat brought in. Get dressed in your favorite clothes and put on your favorite music and dance.

Furthermore, keep a dairy and write down the things you love about you. Make a wish list and write down places you would like to see, people you would love to meet, or new skills you would like to
acquire. Things like these make you focus on the good about yourself and are a reminder that there can never be another you.

You are amazing. Give yourself permission to celebrate your uniqueness.

If you can’t stop yourself from comparing, try self-hypnosis. Hypnosis for self-confidence works – it will open the door for your joy to come back in.
