The Relationship Between Relaxation and Hypnotherapy

There is an important relationship between hypnotherapy and

  relaxation

Relaxation defined - state of being free from tension and anxiety.

Hypnotherapy - using hypnosis for therapeutic purposes.

Relaxation is a necessary component of hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapists use relaxation techniques to help their clients achieve the state of hypnosis.

Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed, highly suggestible, focused state of mind.

Relaxation quiets the mind and the body and opens the door to the trance state of hypnosis. Hypnosis makes it possible to by-pass the critical mind and access the subconscious mind. When the client is in this trance state the hypnotherapist makes positive suggestions that can lead to powerful changes (that the client wants) on a subconscious level.

Breathing is the key to relaxation.
Relaxation is the key to hypnosis.
Hypnosis is the key to the mind.
The mind is the key to change.
Suggestion is the key to specific change.

Some of the relaxation techniques used by hypnotherapists are:

Progressive muscle relaxation - the hypnotherapist guides the client to systematically tighten and relax various muscles.

Guided imagery - the client is guided through storytelling and mental pictures to achieve the desired state.

Deep breathing exercises - the clients focus on their breath and their breathing.

Relaxation is at the core of these techniques. Most hypnotherapists, including me, use a combination of these techniques to help their clients enter the state of hypnosis.

The difference between relaxation and hypnosis

Mark Tyrell, of the Uncommon Knowledge,  had this to say about hypnosis and relaxation -  "In truth, hypnosis is not inevitably a relaxation state, although it can be. Hypnosis is really a state of highly focused attention."

I believe that relaxation opens the door to hypnosis. However, relaxation in and of itself will not bring about psychological and physical changes, nor help you bypass the critical mind to make changes subconsciously. Hypnosis does! Your hypnotherapist will make suggestions to change

In general, hypnotherapy can help with vocational and a vocational issues. Some issues may require psychological and/or medical referrals.

Summary

Relaxation calms your mind and body. Hypnosis is a very relaxed, highly suggestible, focused state of mind. Hypnotherapy helps you to use your mind for positive change.

One of The Biggest Myths About Hypnosis

I have family members and friends who are afraid of hypnosis. They believe that hypnosis is a form of mind control.

Hypnosis being a form or mind control is one of the biggest myths out there.

If the the only form of hypnotism you’ve been exposed to is the stage hypnotist and the Hollywood type of hypnotism, I understand why you would believe this myth.

The old Hollywood hypnosis movies were based on the misconception that hypnosis was hocus-pocus. Many of the movies depicted unscrupulous men using hypnosis to take advantage of women. Positive portrayals of hypnosis in movies are few and far between. Recently, there has been a couple – Shallow Hal 2001 and Trance 2013.

The biggest influence that most people are exposed to is the stage hypnotist.

The stage hypnotist is a performer who uses hypnosis to entertain. He/she knows how to pick the perfect candidate – not everyone is a good candidate for the hypnotist’s antics, not even me, and I’m a hypnotherapist.

Stage hypnotists choose individuals that are uninhibited, and more suggestible to hypnosis than the average person. I learned from the late Dr. John Kappas, founder of The Hypnosis Motivation Institute that somnambulists are the best candidates for the stage hypnotist.

Somnambulist: someone who walks about in their sleep

Hypnosis is a relaxed, suggestible, focused state of mind but you’re always in control. Here’s an example will make understanding hypnosis easier -  think of the different emotions you experience watching movies. You feel fear; you laugh, cry, and have strong feelings of love or hate.

How or why did this happen?

These emotions are triggered because you entered the state of hypnosis - consciously you know the movie is not real but your subconscious mind (home of your emotions) responds to stimuli whether they are real, replicated or imagined. However, you remain in control of you. You can walk out of the movie, turn off the television, or make a decision to not allow the movie to affect you in anyway.

A hypnotherapist/hypnotist, in essence, replaces the movie; he/she is the facilitator that helps you to reach a relaxed, suggestible, focused state of mind called hypnosis. In this state a hypnotherapist helps you to achieve goals and a stage hypnotist uses it to have fun. In both situations you remain in control, you can walk away or allow yourself to have the experience.

So, relax  family and friends - throw this myth under the bus, hypnosis is not mind control.

Comparison Kills Joy: How to Stop Comparing and Start Appreciating You

What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”
― Scott Westerfeld

Yes, comparison kills joy.

I’m not sure if men do this but I know for a fact that when it comes to physical beauty – women are always comparing themselves to other women, and they never measure up.

Comparing yourself to others is a toxic and dis-empowering mind-set. It will crush your spirit and destroy your self-esteem.
Can you relate to these and/or other negative thoughts?

She is so beautiful! She has nice legs! Her breasts are bigger than mine! She's thinner! Etc.

Are you always making comparisons with other women thinking they are more physically attractive than you? Beauty is skin deep. You can never buy it during a shopping spree or find it within the glossy pages of your favorite fashion magazine.

Stop comparing yourself to other women. We are all made differently. What joy would there be, if everybody looked exactly the same?  How would we tell each other apart? And won’t men find us desperately boring?

Stop looking at the lip-gloss she wears or the Prada bag that she carries; they may be nice to look
at. But they do little for self-worth. That comes from the belly within.

Self-appreciation comes from loving yourself. It comes from being true to yourself and appreciating yourself just the way you are. It comes from having lips that only speak well about people and eyes that only see the best in people.

Comparison kills joy and it's a sign of low-confidence and poor self-esteem. Be confident and realize that there are many things to like about you. Be contented with these things. Someone somewhere might just be dying to have these qualities!

Comparing yourself to others is a time waster; it will only lower your confidence levels. There is no one out there like you, who has your experiences or abilities. So love yourself and be optimistic about
your possibilities. Never look down on yourself. Celebrate yourself. Show your body respect by taking care of it.

You can also go on a night out with yourgirlfriends and feel good about life. And if the conversation starts to veer towards not being good enough, tell your friends that there are more interesting things in life to be talking about. And when you do not feel like hitting the town with your girlfriends and want to stay at home, no problem!

Do not drag your feet around the house looking like what the cat brought in. Get dressed in your favorite clothes and put on your favorite music and dance.

Furthermore, keep a dairy and write down the things you love about you. Make a wish list and write down places you would like to see, people you would love to meet, or new skills you would like to
acquire. Things like these make you focus on the good about yourself and are a reminder that there can never be another you.

You are amazing. Give yourself permission to celebrate your uniqueness.

If you can’t stop yourself from comparing, try self-hypnosis. Hypnosis for self-confidence works – it will open the door for your joy to come back in.

5 Ways to Master Your Mindset

5 Ways to Master Your Mind Set for Your Success

Successful people have a win-win mindset.  They always envision themselves in places of power and affluence within their minds. They have faith in their innate abilities and are convinced they have it takes to get ahead of the pack. This is what takes over their bodies and pushes them to succeed. There is no successful person on this planet that does not have a winning mentality. If you cannot think it, you can never see it. And if you cannot see it, you can never be it. In the race towards success, the mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Hypnosis works in a powerful way to help you master your mindset. Not everyone is open to using hypnosis or hypnotherapy for change. If you are one of those people - here are 5 ways, you can begin to use today, to master your mindset for your success

1. Chase Away Negative Thoughts

Can I do this? What if I fail? Where will I get the money? How can it work with all these problems? These are all negative thoughts that run through the mind. Everyone is bound to have them one time or the other. There are no exemptions. However, how you react to these negative thoughts or emotions is what counts.
Find a way to chase them away. Never allow them linger and grow on you. Laughter is a good antidote. You can also go for a walk and meditate on the good things in your life rather than focus on the negatives. When you see the good things, it fires up your reserves and helps you conquer those bad vibes.

2. Surround Yourself with Positive & Successful People

As the saying goes, the friends you keep determine what you would eventually become. If you are always with successful people with a positive energy, they will easily infect your mindset and behavior. These types of people alter your mentality and push you towards your own goals. If your friends are always moping or complaining about anything and everything, it’s time to start looking for new ones.

3. Speak Right

This might seem somewhat silly. But it works. Positive declarations or assertions have been known to get people through trying times. Many successful people when relating their stories note that affirmations played a strong part towards them attaining success.
To find the one that works for you, consider writing down a list of your insecurities, reservations, grievances and turn them to positive confessions. Say them like you mean it and mean it when you say them.

4. Expect the Best Prepare for the Worst

This might sound like a contradiction but it actually makes sense. Take that bold leap forward with an expectation of success. But also try to bolster yourself for life lows. No one can escape them. It will never be all bed of roses. Hard times fall on the best people. The key learning is to rise from the ashes like the Phoenix and conquer those challenges.

Adversity is a good instructor, learn what she teaches. If you have not prepared your mindset for the hard
times, you cannot have a mindset to cope with the good times.

5. Know What You Want

Be unequivocally clear on what you want. If you have a strong picture of what you want in life, you have a very good chance of succeeding. Creating precisely what you want in your mind’s eye, affords you the chance to be more defined towards setting your intentions and life’s goals.
Success is within everybody’s reach. You can attain the heights that you set for yourself if only you would believe that is possible. Engage these 5 ways to master your mindset for your success, turn your life into a play area of possibilities.
